State of Crap

Tonight Pres. George W. Bush is giving his State of the Union Address. In honor of the talking chimp, we have some presidential (anti-Bush) themed tunes for you this week.

Liam Lynch – United States of Whatever (George Bush remix)
First up is this hilarious "George Bush" remix of Liam Lynch's song "The United States of Whatever." The U.S. of W. was a semi-hit song a few years ago in the UK, so British TV created a remix making fun of George W. Bush specifically. It's a great song and great parody. Liam Lynch created the "Sifl and Olly Show" which aired on MTV back in 1997-1999 and recently directed, edited and co-wrote some of the songs for Sarah Silverman's film: "Jesus is Magic."

Other Liam Lynch Songs to Check Out: Electrician's Day, Fake Bjork Song: "city", Horny Kind of Love, I'm All Bloody Inside

Todd Snider – Fuck George Bush Like His Dad Did
A little over a year ago, Michael Moore came to Utah to speak. There was a huge ruckus in Utah County (the evil, right-wing, uptight county to the south of Salt Lake City) about using student fees to bring a liberal to speak at Utah Valley State College (UVSC). You might say "What!? There's a city or county in Utah that's NOT uptight and right-wing?" Well, yes. Salt Lake City is actually quite liberal. It's everything outside SLC and Park City that's uptight and right wing. For example, SLC hasn't elected a Republican as mayor since 1971 and the entire state legislative representation for SLC is Democratic. And our Representative in the U.S. Congress is also a Democrat. Anyway, I wanted to make a mix CD of crazy anti-Bush songs to play on our way to the Michael Moore speech at UVSC and while searching for such, I found this great live song by Todd Snider, wherein he's "praying for George Bush to die." I can’t think of anything better.

Other Todd Snider Songs to Check Out: Alright Guy, Trouble, You Think You Know Somebody

Rilo Kiley – It’s A Hit
Rilo Kiley has this great song where they sing that any chimp can run for office and think he’s a great decision maker. Send lots of troops to war, etc. Does that remind you of anyone? Hint: his initials are GWB. My Bush Would Make a Better President!

Other Rilo Kiley Songs to Check Out: Portions For Foxes, Absence Of God, Accidental Death

The Presidents of the United States of America – Old Man On The Back Porch
Well, this music blog can’t be all music that’s completely anti and political. We need some fun little number to go here. How about we stick to the presidential theme with a crazy tune from The Presidents of the United States of America? The album this song is from was really wacky. Of the 13 tracks, ten of them mention bugs or animals frequently found on a farm. I wonder, how hard could it have been for them to squeeze in a mention in the other three songs? Not hard at all. Slackers. Well, they nearly make up for it by mentioning worms, a kitty, bug-eyed monkeys and more all in this one song. I especially like when they play the no-string guitar! Don’t question, just listen to the song.

Other Presidents Songs to Check Out: Lump, Dune Buggy, My Date With The President’s Daugher, Peaches, Kitty

George W. Bush (á la rx) – Imagine…Walk On The Wild Side
No satirical music blog about the president’s state of the union address would be complete without a song made up entirely from spliced speeches by Bush made into a medley of John Lennon’s “Imagine” mixed in with “Take A Walk On The Wild Side.” And the colored girls sing… This song brought to you by rx.
Other rx Songs to Check Out: my generation rx, white lines

Hi--I was browsing around and I enjoy your work a lot. I do similar stuff too (political rants in verse/poetic form). Anyone reading this should definitely feel free to check out my site and give input. Thanks!
