SISSEL: Many feared the
concert would have to be canceled because of the rain, but Sissel scared
away the rain and came on stage to sing for the 2000 listeners.

RISØR: Just before the goldthroat Sissel
Kyrkjebø went on stage at 11:00 p.m. last night, the heavy rain
stopped. Together with the surprise by Espen Lind, Sissel rescued the
festival opening for the drenched promoter.

Many were afraid that the midnight concert would
regularly be rained out. But the weather gods stood by them. With that
many received the song experience they had looked forward to, and the
festival promoters could breathe comfortably and finally smile on a day
when the drenching rain had destroyed a lot.
Great Success
"Impressive that so many came in such a short
time," said Sissel to the audience, and started singing
immediately. And the audience was into it from the first song. And when
the well-known "Innerst i sjelen" came as song number three,
the evening's success was already a fact.
And
at the end the atmosphere reached new heights. Then the sang charmer
surprised the audience with a number they won't forget soon.
&
quot;I have a friend with me," said Sissel and smiled. Suddenly,
Espen Lind hopped up on stage. Together they closed out the concert with
their big hit "Where The Lost Ones Go," and the success was
complete.
How
much Risør Wooden Boat Festival had to pay to get the great star,
Sissel, to Risør, the director of entertainment, Bjørn
Egil Olsen, won't say.
But
she was worth every dollar, as the opening day developed
yesterday.
Around 2.000
"If we get between 2,000 and 2,500 in the
audience, we'll be happy," grinned entertainment director Olsen.
About that many came. The promoter had sold 576 tickets in advance.
There were certainly at least 2,000 people seated when the first notes
reached the rows of benches.
Siss
el Kyrkjebø also presented songs from her most recent album,
"All Good Things," which came out in November last year. In
the Fall there will be a tour of Norway and a new album release with the
Broadcast Orchestra.
In
Sissel's eight-man band debuted Torjus Vierli from Vegårshei. He
played keyboard and is a new band member. Otherwise she had with her
drummer Trond Lien Per Hillestad (who had worked earlier with a-ha), and
Per Øystein Sørensen (composer).
The
festival promoter told Agderposten that 1,000 tickets to the
festival area were sold yesterday. The rain certainly scared away a
portion. Yesterday 3,000 people celebrated the festival opening day.
