Titanic Soundtrack - 1997

Sissel was the voice of Titanic. As the film opened the first thing one heard was the beautiful voice of Sissel. She sang on seven of the albums tracks with wordless, but emotional arias that evoked the soul of Titanic. Many have speculated that Titanic wouldn't have been as successful as it was without the voice of Titanic, Sissel.

James Horner wrote the title song "My Heart Will Go On" with Sissel in mind to sing the song, however business blunders led to Celine Dion crooning the song...to our dismay. Horner offered the rights to the soundtrack to PolyGram, Sissel's record label, and whoever the idiot was that turned it down should be fired, if he/she wasn't already.

Horner wanted over a million dollars for the rights to the album, which is more than most soundtracks receive and PolyGram turned him down. Sony Classical instead purchased the rights to the soundtrack, but insisted on having a Sony artist, Celine Dion, sing the title song. The soundtrack went on to be the best-selling soundtrack of all time, selling more than 20 million copies and grossing over a billion dollars for Sony.

Some claim the album's incredible sales were because of Celine Dion's involvement, but those in the know realize that it was as much for Sissel's evocative performance as the soul of Titanic that people purchased the album.
