| Sissel in the USA Again

In June Sissel Kyrkjebø travels to the USA to record a new album for Decca Records - which will be fashioned for an American audience.
The recording, which will take place in Chicago--among other places, will be released in the beginning of 2004.
The previous album, "Sissel," which has sold around 100,000 copies in the USA with almost no marketing, contained new editions of old songs which were on "All Good Things," and other albums.
"Decca is very happy. The goal with the 'Sissel' album was to establish her among record retailers, the media and the music branch," explained manager Arne Svare, who believes that her appearance at the opening of NARM in Orlando, an important expo for music retailers, was a great success. Right now Sissel is in full swing choosing contributions from various songwriters, but she insists that the record label gives her great freedom.
"I am on a classical music label. This means that I don't have the same expectations for hit songs," remarked Sissel to Bergensavisen recently.
The last time Sissel went in the studio in the USA was in 1997. Then it was producer Rick Chertoff's songs that were thrown out and the album was never released.
Sissel will also appear in concert in the USA this summer. TV network PBS, who had a big campaign with the Norwegian singer, is the arranger of the concert tour.
The first stop is Philadelphia. After that there are two concerts in St. Louis, then the mini tour concludes in New York. The concerts are already sold out and the ticket price is $290, nearly 2000 Norwegian kroner, but these are benefit concerts supporting PBS.
